Psychology is the science of the human mind and behaviour. The human mind is the source of all thought and behaviour – it is the most complex machine on the Earth. Due to the complexity and diversity of human behaviour, Psychology often poses more questions than it answers. To succeed at Psychology, students need a critical eye and be able to take on board a number of conflicting perspectives. Students need to be prepared to learn a lot of new information in a short amount of time and confidently cope with the scientific and mathematical side of the subject. Psychology is only offered as a Sixth Form subject but students in Year 11 can join Psychology Society in order for them to experience psychology before making their A Level choices. The AQA A Level Psychology course at K.E.S. is designed to develop students’ understanding of human behaviour through a scientific and analytical lens. Delivered in a highly structured manner, the curriculum ensures students can confidently organise and retain complex information, fostering both academic success and a deep appreciation for the subject. Students are encouraged to apply psychological theories and research to real world contexts. Developing critical thinking skills essential for higher education and beyond. A strong emphasis is placed on independent learning and super-curricular engagement, with opportunities to explore contemporary psychological debates, engage in wider reading, enter external competitions and engage in Psychology Society. This prepares students for highly competitive university courses, particularly in psychology and related fields such as neuroscience. Through rigorous teaching, academic enrichment, and a focus on real-world application, our psychology curriculum equips students with the skills, knowledge, and ambition to excel in their studies and future careers. |
